The MY GEO Mobility is a training methodology targeted to students in higher education and aimed at fostering the acquisition of key skills on the use of GIS tools, through experiences of international mobility in private companies.
A number of international mobility are currently under implementation and are organized according to the MY GEO mobility methodology: containing a programme of activities, the detail of the skills to be acquired and a framework for the evaluation of the skills acquired. Each mobility has a duration of 300h (about 40 days of internship) they involve students from the partner universities being hosted in partner companies.
Two students from the University of Zaragoza are currently hosted in the “A.R.S. Progetti” office in Rome: they are supporting the work of professionals employed in a contract issued by the European Commission and requiring the use of GIS technologies for the elaboration of maps, reports and data for the preservation of the cultural heritage in a cooperation country. The photos in attachment report the work of the students, that they describe as following:
“During our stay in the company A.R.S. Progetti we are collaborating in the elaboration of an integral management plan of the archaeological and cultural heritage of the city of Durres in Albania” reports Guillermo: “We are supporting and complementing the work done by a multidisciplinary team that are making use of GIS tools to. The concrete tasks to be carried out are diverse, such as the elaboration of thematic maps and reports, as well as the study of existing databases to obtain the information we need. I am learning what kind of cartography is needed and wanted for architecture and urban planning”.
While Jorge underlines how: “there are things that are more interesting than others, but I believe that we have to do all of them in order to practice and learn. I had not used GIS tools for a long time and now it is being really useful to use them again and to check “first-hand” how they are used for a specific project. I am enjoying the experience a lot.”
